Join us for an evening safari into the Northern Norwegian landscape with a local guide who knows the habits and life of the moose and where we have the best chance of seeing them.

The Moose – elg in Norwegian – is Europe’s largest land animal. Despite its size, it is shy and cautious, but often allow us to get quite near. We observe from a respectful distance and never disturb the animals. Our aim is to experience them as they are – calm, natural, and undisturbed in their own environment.

On the way, we pass Saltstraumen, home to the world’s strongest tidal current – an impressive natural phenomenon that adds another highlight to the tour. Along the route, there are also chances to see other wildlife, such as reindeer and white-tailed eagle.

We take time to enjoy the surroundings, with good opportunity for photography throughout the tour. Snacks, warm drinks, and photos from the experience are included – so you can stay present while we help capture the moments.

We booked two tours through Nordland and both were excellent. The first evening we took a Moose Safari. The guide, Elida, knew just where to take us to see those fascinating and huge animals, and we saw over 20 of them!

What You Should Know About the Moose Safari

  • Brauche ich Vorerfahrung im Outdoor-Bereich?

    Is this trip for me? This trip is in no way strenuous. Everyone can join. Normally we do not leave the vehicle. If we do, the moose will see that we are humans, and it will run away. If you have any kind of physical disability, please inform us at least 48 h. prior to departure.

    Grading: this trip is graded as Easy.

    Minimum age: reccomended minimum age is 6 years.

  • No moose seen, no pay! Really?

    For the `guide and car` option:
    We have been operating the moose safari from Bodo for 15 years and never had to refund any guests. If we do not see any moose during the trip when you join our guided safari, we will offer a full refund.

  • Kann ich auch buchen, wenn ich alleine reise?

    • Ja, absolut! Bei vielen unserer Touren sind Alleinreisende dabei. Du bist herzlich willkommen, dich solo anzuschließen und unterwegs neue Bekanntschaften zu schließen.
    • Privattour als Einzelperson? Wenn du die einzige Buchung bist, die Tour aber unbedingt an deinem Wunschdatum stattfinden soll, kannst du sie als Privattour buchen. In diesem Fall übernimmst du die Kosten für die erforderliche Mindestteilnehmerzahl.

  • Gelände, Distanz und Höhenmeter

    We go by car or a small bus to areas some 40 km away from Bodø.

    The moose safari trip will also include a stop by Saltstraumen, the strongest maelstrom in the world. You can walk the bridge and look down in to the powerful whirlpools.

  • Gruppengröße – wir setzen auf kleine Gruppen

    • Typical group size for our trips range from 2 to 6. We prefer to keep the group size as small as possible for these trips, which improves the experience for the participants and guide alike.
    • What is the minimum number of participants? To run this tour, a minimum of two people must book. If this minimum is not met, we reserve the right to cancel the tour. You will then have the option of being rebooked on an alternative date or receiving a full refund.
    • Larger groups: Moose safari for larger groups are also available, then we will we divide the group into smaller groups of 15 – 16 people, each of which trip are accompanied by their own guide and one minibus.
