Since the Northern Ligthts are unpredictable, you will enjoy selected winter experiences during your efforts. Get ready to feed reindeers, learn about Sami culture and National Parks in Northern Norway. Try snowshoeing and cross the Arctic Circle on foot. This 4 days tour starts in the beautiful Northern town of Bodø, just above The Arctic Circle.
Highlights: Explore the beautiful Northern town Bodø just above the Arctic circle. Local cultural experiences at Rognan: traditional Nordland boat and Folk museum. Get to know Sami culture, meet the reindeers and learn about national parks in Northern Norway. Enjoy selected winter experiences such as snowshoeing and dog sledding.
Northern Lights: We will hunt the Northern Lights every day and night. Please note there is no guarantee to see it. We will make every effort to see the lights, even driving to Sweden if better weather conditions there.

07.00 pm Evening hike to Keiservarden & Aurora hunt
As night falls (and if weather permits) we do a hike to Keiservarden in the evening. Equipped with headlamps and snow spikes this is a good warm up for the coming days with winter experiences. Before we start we will check the local northern light forecast for Northern Norway.

Day 2 The village of Rognan
Train ride. Village of Rognan. Folk Museum. Traditional Nordland boat. Saltfjellet mountain plateau. Lønsdal. Hunting the Northern Lights.

07.45 am Train departs from from Bodø
By train is an easy and comfortable way for us to get from Bodø to Lønsdal onto the Saltfjellet mountain plateau. From Bodø station (4 metres above sea level) the train will bring us to Lønsdal (512 m a.s.l.) a total distance of 127 km.
From Bodø the line runs following the Saltenfjord (60 km long fjord). The route goes through changing scenic countryside, offering panoramic views of suburbs, mountains, lakes and fjords.
The Nordland Railway (Northern Railway) runs between the historic city of Trondheim and the beautiful Northern town of Bodø. The train departs twice a day, and also runs as a night train with sleeping compartments.
The Arctic Circle: The railway crosses the Arctic Circle and takes you through stunning Norwegian scenery. It is the longest railway in Norway (729 km all the way), single track and lacks electrification. The route carries both commuter, long-haul passenger and freight trains.

Båtbygger Kai Linde
Nordlandsbåt er en tradisjonell trebåt bygd i Nord-Norge. Båtbyggertradisjonen er over 1000 år gammel og har spor helt tilbake til vikingtiden. Nordlandsbåten er en kombinert robåt og seilbåt som ble brukt til fiske langs kysten av hele Nord-Norge. Nordlandsbåten bærer i seg linjer fra vikingskipene.
Fra 1700-tallet var båtbygging en viktig næring i Saltdal. Kombinasjonen av god furuskog, elv og fjord dannet grunnlaget for bygging av trebåter på Rognan. Båtene ble bygget på gårdene oppover i dalen og fraktet nedover på elva til sjøen.
I dag brukes stort sett mer moderne båter, tradisjonen med bygging av nordlandsbåter var dermed i ferd med å dø ut. Båtbygger Kai Linde holder fortsatt tradisjonen i hevd. Vi besøker hans trebåtbyggeri og får historien om Nordlandsbåten.
Saltdal Folk Museum
The museum consists of some 20 old buildings dating from the seventeenth to the twentieth centuries. These include a cookhouse, storehouse, barn, smithy and schoolhouse. We will enter these buildings to view the exhibits. The museum houses two Nordland-boats.
The Blood Road Museum
The story of the lives and work of prisoners of war under the German regime from 1942-1945 is presented in a German barracks moved here from Dunderdalen. Thousands of prisoners of war from eastern Europe were sent north to build roads and railways. They suffered inhuman conditions. Many never returned. This museum is part of the Folk Museum.

Overnatting Saltfjellet Hotell
Charming mountain hotel (lodge) with tourist class standard / 3 stjerner som turistklassehotell, built in 1950. Hotellet er mye oppgradert og står i dag frem med ny lobby, restaurant og bar.
Hotellrommene er store, oppusset og har egne bad. Flere rom har dobbel sovesofa, noe som passer bra for barnefamilier. Badstue innendørs, badestamp og grillstue ute. Sauna / snøbad?
Velsmakende, lokal og kortreist mat fra gårder, fiskevann, fjell og fjord. Reinen vandrer rundt her på fjellet, så flere matretter med reinkjøtt inngår selvfølgelig i deres arktiske meny.
Day 3 The Arctic Circle
Snowshoeing. Sami culture & Reindeer. The Arctic Circle. Nordland National Park Centre. Try to see the Northern Lights.

Tradisjonell god norsk frokost servert som buffet.
Etter frokost sjekker vi om ekornene som har tilhold i skogen rundt hotellet har fått frokost. De er ganske tillitsfulle og spiser gjerne av fuglematen som hotellet legger ut.
09.00 am Snowshoe trip from hotel
Vi går på truger fra hotellet gjennom fjellbjørkeskogen til den samiske familien Oskal, ca 1 km. Optional transport will be available.
Underveis passerer vi flere typiske norske hytter. I Norge er det veldig vanlig å ha hytte for å koble av i helger.
10.00 am Visit by the Sami family Oskal. Sami Culture. Meet the reindeers. Lunch.
Samisk kultur og reindrift. Lunsj (hot traditional Sami meal). Mate og klappe reinsdyr? Sledetur? Annet?
02.00 pm Crossing The Arctic Circle
Hentes med minibuss. Krysse Polarsirkelen til fots.
03.00 pm Nordland National Park Centre & Adde Zetterquist art gallery
Kunst- og naturutstillinger i vakker arkitektur og naturskjønne omgivelser. Etter omvisningen i galleriet og naturutstillingen får du smale ekte nordnorsk bålkaffe. You better be prepared, den skal være sterk og smake bål!
