Full-Day Winter Adventure: Fjords, Mountains & Dog Sledding

Experience the best of Northern Norway on this full-day winter adventure from Bodø. Discover Saltstraumen, travel along spectacular fjords and snow-covered mountains, explore charming small towns, and head into the wilderness for an unforgettable dog sledding experience. It’s a full day of winter scenery, local discoveries and outdoor adventure.

A full day of winter scenery and adventure

We leave Bodø around 08:00 and head towards Saltstraumen, where we make our first stop to see the home of the world’s strongest tidal current. From here, we continue inland along the spectacular Misvær fjord towards a charming, rural village surrounded by mountains, passing small settlements and farms on our way towards Saltdalen.

The journey is an adventure in its own right. We wind our way along fjords, past mountains and through small communities, with room in the day to stop when a view catches our eye or a place sparks our curiosity. This isn’t a drive to get somewhere as quickly as possible — it’s a chance to discover the winter landscapes around Bodø as we go.

With a maximum of 6 guests, we have the flexibility to make spontaneous stops for stunning views or, when conditions allow, enjoy a fun, short snowshoeing walk. Small groups make it easier to venture beyond the roadside and get a little closer to the nature that makes this region so special, while giving everyone space to take in the beauty of the Arctic landscape.

Dog sledding in Saltdalen

Around 11:00, we arrive at the husky farm in Saltdalen, where you will meet the sled dogs and your local guide. You can help harness the dogs before receiving a safety briefing and learning the basics of driving a dog sled.

Two guests normally share one team of four huskies, taking turns as driver and passenger on an approximately 8-kilometre trip through the wilderness. No previous dog sledding experience is required. If you prefer to sit back and enjoy the ride, you can also travel as a passenger on the guide’s sled.

Afterwards, we return to a cosy lavvu, inspired by a traditional Sami tent, to gather around the fire with a warm drink. Bring a packed lunch to enjoy here, with time to relax and warm up.

The scenic journey back to Bodø

After our time with the huskies, we start the journey back towards Bodø, following a different route. We stop in Rognan, a small town with a long boatbuilding tradition, and may make further stops at viewpoints and other places along the way, depending on conditions and the time available.

We expect to be back in Bodø around 16:00. From fjords and mountain scenery to local communities and dog sledding, this is a full day packed with winter experiences — and with plenty of time to enjoy every part of the journey.

Please note: The route and stops may change depending on weather, road conditions and the season.

The exact route and scenic stops may vary depending on weather, road conditions and the season.

  • What happens if the weather is bad?

Northern Norway’s weather can change quickly, so the exact route and scenic stops may be adjusted according to conditions. We always aim to make the journey as enjoyable as possible while keeping safety first.
